Take a Break (Even When You Aren’t Stuck)

Taking a break is a good technique to use when you’re stuck on something. Your subconscious mind is pretty good problem solver. You figure something out while you’re occupied with something else like walking around or driving or taking a shower.

Something I’ve discovered is that it’s beneficial to let things incubate even when you aren’t stuck. You might have a great idea, but in your excitement you might miss something important. If you wait and think about something a little bit instead of acting impulsively, you just might foresee some Big Mistake that could really throw a wrench into your plans.

So go ahead, jot down your idea or sketch it out, capture it right away, act on it if it’s critical, but otherwise let it incubate in your mind a while before you do something about it. Let your ideas take root and grow a while.
